Hi, I’m Anna—a communication designer and writer—currently on sabbatical. During my time off, I decided to work on a DIY Master’s—exploring how people and planet intersect, and sharing everything I learn along the way.

A DIY What?

In the fall of 2024, I took leave from my company. Interested in people and planet, I wanted to learn about the systems that shape society—and support it. When I couldn't find the perfect master's, I decided to make my own.

The curriculum is guided by one question: What can we do? I’m reading council meeting minutes, science journals, and reports so you don’t have to; instead of essays, I’m writing articles.

Food for Thought

When it comes to cows and I, it’s complicated.

For years, I've known that some of the things we eat—like beef and cheese—have a big carbon footprint. And yet, I've kept eating them.

Since I’ve been learning about behaviour change as part of my DIY master's, I decided to put theory into practice: what would it take for me to make a change? The results were surprising.

How It Started

Recently, my husband asked, “Do you have hope?” I thought about it. “The more I learn,” I said, “The less I do. But the more sure I am,” I continued, “that there is no better use of my time.”
